Diablo Choral Artists present "A Song Together" - Sunday, May 12, 2024

On Sunday, May 12, 2024, please join DCA for a unique Mother’s Day gift: a captivating concert infused with multicultural voices and fresh artistic leadership!   

With the appointments of new Artistic Director, Luis González, new pianist Dr. Matthew Wood, and an influx of talented new members joining DCA’s current group of gifted singers, DCA stands poised to enchant audiences once more with unforgettable musical experiences. 

Entitled “A Song Together,” this celebratory performance takes place at 4:00 PM on Sunday, May 12 at the bucolic campus of Mt. Diablo Unitarian Universalist Church (55 Eckley Lane, Walnut Creek). Following the concert, guests are invited to partake in a complimentary reception, featuring light refreshments and a chance to connect with the performing artists. 

The May 12 program weaves together folk song choral traditions from diverse cultures, including England, Mexico, the American South, and the Jewish diaspora. Audiences may anticipate a seamless blend of vocal works accompanied by guitar, string quartet, and piano. 

Featured selections include: 

• Five Hebrew Love Songs by Eric Whitacre, for chorus and string quartet 

• Three Mexican Folk Songs by David Conte, featuring chorus, guitar and strings 

• Time-honored American hymn settings, as arranged by the renowned Alice Parker and Robert Shaw 

• Excerpts from Aaron Copland’s celebrated Old American Songs, arranged for chorus and piano; and 

• Selections from Five English Folk Songs, originally arranged by Ralph Vaughan Williams for a capella chorus 

This concert offers a poignant tribute to the connective power of community and warm spirit of chosen family, proffering an unforgettable gift for your cherished loved ones this Mother’s Day.
